UFC 129 Preview: Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick

Mark HominickWhile much of the talk in the lead up to UFC 129 has been in regards to the title bout between champion Georges St. Pierre and challenger Jake Shields, the UFC has stacked the card for their first ever visit to Toronto, Ontario. For those waiting to jump on the upcoming 2011 Kentucky derby betting, the card offers a wealth on interesting betting action.

London, Ontario-based Mark Hominick will challenge featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo for his belt, and the bout promises an interesting matchup of styles. Online sports betting players know that Hominick's "cardio-kickboxing" style is one that Aldo hasn't seen in his many fights stateside thus far. Still, Aldo has cut a swath of destruction through the featherweight division in his WEC run. Moreover, because of his explosive striking, we rarely see his high-level grappling ability, which could end up giving Hominick the most trouble here. Hominick has shown he can hang on the ground, and even has a couple of credible submission wins on his resume including choke victories over Savant Young and Yves Edwards. Still, Hominick faces an extremely stern test in Aldo.

While Hominick will be competitive here, Aldo is a smart pick to take this. Indeed, an analysis of both men reveals that Hominick doesn't actually threaten Aldo in any one area, he just provides some intrigue because Aldo has been so dominant thus far, and Hominick is always in shape, game, and has a unique style of striking.
