UFC 133 Previews

On Saturday August 6, 2011 from the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia the UFC presents UFC 133 for your sports betting pleasure. The card is highlighted by two Light Heavyweight bouts featuring Rich Franklin taking on Antonio Nogueira in the semi main event and Rashad Evans making his return to the octagon as “Mr. Natural” Phil Davis. Here is a UFC betting line preview for UFC 133.

Late last month, UFC President Dana White informed fans that the main event fight between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis would be used to determine the new number one contender for the Light Heavyweight belt currently owned by Jon Jones. For Rashad Evans, a win over Phil Davis after a 15 month layoff due to injury, means absolutely everything. Essentially, due to the injuries sustained while training for a Light Heavyweight title fight with former champion Shogun Rua, Rashad Evans had to withdraw, and was replaced by then teammate Jon Jones. After winning the title from Rua, Jones and Evans decided to no longer be training partners, so it wouldn’t be awkward fighting for the title at UFC 133.

However, after Jon Jones won the belt, he announced he had injured several tendons in his right hand, and was forced to withdraw from the Rashad Evans title fight. As a result, Evans is now facing undefeated Light Heavyweight Phil Davis, while Jones has a new opponent in Quinton Jackson for UFC 135. On paper, Rashad Evans should hand Phil Davis his first loss, since he owns a more experienced win loss record. Yet, it is important to keep in mind that Evans has not fought in 15 months, while Phil Davis last fought in March. Meaning to say, Evans could be rusty, which in turn would allow for Davis to steal the number one contender spot from Evans with a victory.
